WHO WE ARE
Botcem is a robotcs team created in 2011 at Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) and located at Centro Tecnologico de Joinville (CTJ). It is currently composed by 21 academics from the courses bachelor in science and technology, Mechatronics engineering and naval engineering divided in five cells - administration, combat robot Hobbyweight (5,4 kg), sumo robot mini category (500 g), line follower robot and combat robot Beetleweight (1,4 kg) - and counts with the coordinating and orienting by professor Anderson Wedderhoff Spengler and the support of professor Roberto Simoni and professor Antônio Otaviano Dourado. The team has no intent of profit and our goal is to make possible a bigger interaction between the practical and the knowledge acquired on the courses of Centro Tecnológico de Joinville.
Currently, the team works on the construction and improvement of four robots: Striker, Malware, Kratos II and Aldebaran, which compete in the categories combat Hobbyweight, mini sumo, line follower pro and combat Beetleweight, respectively. All the robots are idealized, projected, built and programmed by the students members of the team with support of the teachers and coordinator. The team has participated in international competitions in the years 2012 - Winter and Summer Challenge, 2015 - Winter Challenge and 2017 - Winter Challenge. At Winter Challenge in 2012, the team reched 11th place in the combat Hobbyweight category, in the year 2015, it reached 7th place in the same category and the 13th place in the line follower pro category. In 2017, it reached 15th place in the combat Hobbyweight category and the 13th place in the sumo mini category. In 2012's Summer Challenge, the team reached 7th place in the combat Hobbyweight category and the 9th place in the sumo mini category. All the work is developed at a laboratory given by the university, utilizing tools acquired with personal resources and following a timetable with focus on the competitions, which are the main points of the team's calendar.
In addition to the competitions, the team participates in exhibition fairs - such as the National Congress of Mobility Engineering (CONEMB) and the children's exhibition of the GERM team of the State University of Santa Catarina (UDESC), and is a partner of the Secretariat of Urban Planning and Sustainable Development of Joinville and the Fab.Ville organization along with other teams from the region in the founding of the Joinville Robotics Festival - FRJ.
The CONEMB is a Congress organized by a committee of students from CTJ of UFSC in order to show the students what really makes an engineer in their area and give more market visibility for courses at the Center, which are relatively new. The Festival will have its first edition in October 2017 and aims to foster the robotics culture in the city through exhibitions, workshops and competitions, raising curiosity about the theme "technological development" - especially in children who are the target audience of the event, and creating a new generation of "innovation" theme enthusiasts.
